Tick Spray For Your Yard From Natural Ingredients

Protection against tick and mosquito-born illnesses that is safe for people, pets and the environment!

Natural, safe, and effective!

You can rest easy knowing that we are offering a first line protection against tick and mosquito born illnesses without detrimental pesticides to keep your family, pets, and local environment safe.

A tick spray application for your yard is a great way to help protect your family and pets from all types of ticks in Maine. We use an organic based pesticide that kills ticks and acts as a natural tick repellent for yard applications. Using state of the art equipment, we apply the product to rock walls, perennial gardens, leaf litter, and brush to create a barrier with products that are safe for people, safe for the environment and safe for pets. The product is a 25b exempt, meaning it is exempt from EPA registration because of its benign nature. Anything can be harmful if used improperly, so our technicians go through a thorough training program to ensure the application is done in a safe, effective manner. Tick-borne diseases are growing at an alarming rate in Maine, and our tick spray products will kill and repel all types of ticks to provide the protection you need.

How to Kill Ticks in Your Yard

Greener Grounds is committed to providing a first line of protection without dangerous pesticides that can harm your family. Our natural tick killer and repellent is the best yard treatment for ticks. We apply a natural tick spray that lasts 4-6 weeks between applications to provide ongoing protection for your yard, with applications every 4 weeks being the most effective.

Our applications are done with a backpack mist blower system that disturbs leaf litter, infiltrates cracks and crevices in rock walls and wood piles, as well as hard to reach places under shrubs and tall grasses.

In addition to tick spraying applications, We also offer plans for your property to reduce tick and mosquito impact using landscaping techniques and features. When you call us, we’ll visit your home, review the needs for your yard and provide you a price for ongoing protection as well as a consultation for what can be done to reduce tick habitat and cover.

Is Application Safe for my Family and the Environment?

Our tick spray application has been proven to be safe for people, pets and the environment! Our product is exempt for regulation from EPA restrictions based on the minimal and zero risk of the ingredients that compose it. Our product has also been proven safe for larger beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies. Because the product is made from organic sources, it does not persist or accumulate in the environment the way that synthetic pesticides do. A copy of the product label is available upon request.

Is Tick Spray for My Yard Safe for My Pets?

Many people ask us, “Is tick spray for my yard safe for my pets?” Protection from ticks without use of a synthetic tick pesticide is important for pets in particular. Whether your dogs roam the yard, or play with toys and tennis balls in the grass and wooded areas around your home, it is important to use natural products that are safe for your furry family members. We only use organic based natural ingredients to provide the protection you want from ticks without adding dangerous synthetic chemicals to the environment that you and your pets live and play in.

Midcoast Maine Ticks and Lyme Disease

Midcoast Maine has one of the highest rates of Lyme Disease in the country! While deer bring ticks into many areas, the most common culprit for the spread of ticks and lyme disease is the white footed mouse. They, along with other rodents, carry the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi. This bacteria can be transferred from the tick to humans and their pets. According to the CDC there are 300,000 reported cases of Lyme Disease each year! Whether you live in town or in the woods, mice, deer, and other animals will bring ticks into your yard.

Mosquitos

In addition to ticks, mosquitoes are becoming more than just a nuisance pest for Maine residents. Although not all mosquito borne illnesses have been recorded in Maine, it is important to educate yourself on them to protect your family. We also offer mosquito control for your home. Since mosquitoes fly and can breed in neighboring areas, controlling these pests is a bit more difficult than ticks, but our methods can significantly reduce populations using natural products, and protect your family from the diseases they can carry.

There are several mosquito borne illnesses such as: Dengue, Chikungunya, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Malaria, West Nile Virus, Yellow Fever, and Zika. Both West Nile virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis have been reported in Maine.

Mosquitoes are active at dusk and dawn, are most active at 80°F and do not function below 50°F.

June is generally considered the month for woodland mosquitoes except in wet years when the season may be prolonged.

Pricing

Single Spray Application: $209 per 1/2 acre or less, $249 1⁄2 acre to 1 acre, over 1 acre is estimated per job.

Spring Applications: Springtime in Maine when nymph ticks are at their peak activity level is very important. Ticks require two blood meals to grow into adults which puts people and pets at the highest risk of bite potential of the season. Beginning applications of the property perimeter and leaf litter for ticks in the Spring is important to protect your yard and home.

Summer Tick Control Applications: We are targeting adult ticks this time of year. Reducing the number of adult ticks is critical in reducing the overall breeding population going into the fall.

Fall Applications: Fall tick spray targets adult ticks that are pregnant. Our spray dissolves tick eggs and kills ticks on contact to help reduce the tick outbreak for the following spring.

We recommend tick spraying every 4-6 weeks from Spring through Fall in order to kill existing tick populations and repel those being newly introduced by deer, mice, and other tick-transportation animals.

All contracts must be signed prior to spray applications per Maine State Law.

Use Deer Resistant Plantings to Reduce Ticks:

Use this guide to deer resistant plantings provided by the State of Maine. While tick spray will kill ticks and repel them from your yard, reducing the attraction for deer and other animals to your yard can help slow the reintroduction from wildlife.

A: Yes! We will come to your property and spend some time going over what we will do to reduce the tick and mosquito population as well as what you can do to help yourself.

Q: How can I help reduce the tick population and protect my yard?

A: There are several actions that you can take to help with tick control. Clean up leaf litter, lift or remove low hanging branches on trees that line the lawn, remove any wood/brush piles, and move bird feeders away from living spaces. We’re happy to discuss these options and more with you during a free consultation.

Q: Do you spray for ticks in the rain?

A: No, we do not spray when it is raining. As soon as the product dries (about 45 minutes) it doesn’t matter if it rains 10 minutes later, 1 hour later or a week later, the product has adhered to plant surfaces. What does matter is each rainfall contributes to the product becoming less effective over time, given the nature of the product is to not have long term negative effects.

Q: Does the tick spray kill bees?

A: No, the product has been tested on bees, butterflies and earthworms without negative consequences. There are many other beneficial insects in the environment that we have also educated ourselves on in order to have the least impact on their populations while protecting your yard from ticks.

Q: What spray programs do you offer?

A: We offer 3 programs. The most effective program is called our Hemlock Program which includes applications every 4 weeks. Our Pine Program includes applications every 6 weeks and our Spruce Program applies every 8 weeks. The product is most effective up to 4 weeks. During your free consultation we will discuss which program is best suited for your property.

Q: Do you spray the lawn?

A: Typically, the lawn is a safe place for your family. A well-kept lawn is not a place that ticks will usually congregate. We spray the perimeter lines of the property where the woods meet the lawn around the house and outbuildings, wood piles, shrubs and rock walls.

Q: What time of year should I spray for ticks?

A: We spray from around the 1st of May through November 30th, weather permitting. We do not spray during winter months.

Q: I have a well, is that a problem?

A: There are no concerns in regards to groundwater contamination. The microbes and bacteria in the soil break down the product naturally.
